First Look: Rodarte Debuts Footwear

We are very excited about this shoe that the Mulleavy sisters revealed to Marie-Claire from their upcoming footwear collection. "For us, every season starts with a shoe idea. Fall allowed us to use a concept we had saved for the right moment," the sisters told Marie Claire. "We created heels made of molded resin filled with layers of coloured sand. We wanted to reference the amazing layers of earth in the landscape." Take a peek below, and head to Marie Claire for more images from the collection

Nike Air Yeezy 2 Singapore Launch!

At the Singapore launch of the highly sought-after new Air Yeezy 2, the sneaker's Egyptian theme was echoed throughout, with a Egyptian solider escort that matches the shoe’s theme, the shorter-cut and spike-textured Yeezy 2′s were brought in inside their own Mummy's casket, for the reveal in front of an estimated 500-strong crowd.  Following a few raffles and other prize give-aways, a handful of lucky sneakerheads in attendance got their hands on a pair of the anaconda-textured leather kicks with their glow-in-the-dark soles thanks to an in-store raffle organized by local boutique Limited Edt. Check the pics and video below, and get the full story at Limited Edt.

TYLP ANNOUNCE ‘SAVE SWINDON’S YOUTH SECTOR’ CAMPAIGN

Swindon, June 2012 - With cuts across the youth sector threatening the closure of many youth clubs in Swindon, voluntary organisation The Youth Life Project have announced a refocused approach to their short term objectives to reflect the needs of the community and the young people that live in the region by launching the ‘Save Swindon’s Youth Sector’ campaign in August 2012.

Following extensive networking and feedback from youth groups across the Swindon area TYLP will be offering flexible support to other youth organisations and establishing partnerships through the ‘Save Swindon’s Youth Sector’ campaign at a time when budget cuts and lack of resources threaten the sector. By working together with Swindon’s youth groups, TYLP are aiming to help sustain the youth services sector in times of financial austerity.

“From the conversations we have engaged in with youth organisations we understand that currently Swindon doesn’t need another youth club, which is what our long term goal was, instead it needs help supporting and building on what’s already here.” said TYLP founder Danielle Brown. “Many youth groups have expressed real concerns that the cuts being made across the youth charity sector would be detrimental to the great work already being put in.”

The Youth Life Project aims to restore the faith lost in young people and equip them with the skills required to make positive life choices. Providing a service for young people in the region aged 10-19 to utilise, The Youth Life Project is born from the passion of its founder Danielle Brown for the care and well-being of young people.

“Acting as guardian angels of Swindon’s youth services, we will be working hard to alleviate some of the pressure youth organisations are currently experiencing with budgets and financial support shrinking year on year. By working alongside the many youth groups already existing in Swindon we aim to offer support in whatever way is needed including fundraising to help organisations provide services that are key to engaging the youth.”

An aspect of support The Youth Life Project will be offering to youth groups includes work-shops in beauty, music, street art and sports. In addition crucial awareness and life skills classes will be provided to help youngsters in areas such as budgeting and building self-esteem.

“We will launch the ‘Save Swindon’s Youth Sector’ campaign at the ‘SN1Fest Summer Ball: In Association with the Youth Life Project’. Monies raised from the event will go towards TYLP’S sister project ‘The Youthy...The interactive Youth Club’ which we will continue to make a priority throughout the summer alongside the SSYS campaign.” concluded Danielle Brown.

*If you are a youth organisation or project in Swindon working with 10-19 year olds and would like to find out more about TYLP and how they can assist your programme please email danielletylp@gmail.com

Converse x Marimekko Fall 2012 Chuck Taylor All Star Collection

The Converse x Marimekko collection is vivid and exciting– every print has a unique story told through the classic Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star.
The Papajo print was created by designer Annika Rimala and was inspired by carvings found in Maya temples while the Kippis print designed by Maija Louekari was inspired by the idea of decorating a porcelain mug with drawings of crystal glasses to make it perfect for serving celebratory drinks. One of Marimekko’s most popular prints, Unikko, was originally designed in 1964 by Maija Isola as a protest to Marimekko founder Armi Ratia forbidding Marimekko designers from creating floral prints as she felt that flowers would always look more beautiful in nature. The Pirput Parput print was designed by Vuokko Eskolin-Nurmesniemi and gives a pop of colour to the classic Chuck Taylor All Star silhouette.
Available now at premium Converse retailers.

SMILE: Yoko Ono

When I thought of the idea for #smilesfilm in 1960s, I was not thinking of anything in particular, just a "wouldn't it be nice?" kinda-thing.

When John, my husband, passed away, I was feeling down, so down, that it showed on my face when I looked at myself in the mirror.
"This is bad," I thought.
I could make myself ill, or if not, make myself a very irritable person, which would be not nice, especially for Sean, my son.
I have to get out of this.

So I systematically smiled into the mirror every morning.
My smile was forced and looked terrible.
But as I kept smiling for some time, my smile became a natural smile.
It not only became a smile with my mouth and my eyes, but my shoulders, my tummy, and finally, with my whole body!

I thought "Okay, I've won the battle!"
That's when I realised how important it is for all of us to smile - not for anybody else, but for ourselves and our health.
That was all.
Soon I forgot about it as an impossible job.

Now the computer age has come in full swing.
And I know that we can use this situation to make the whole world smile!

Please smile for your health and joy.
If all of us do this, our planet will be a heaven, created by us.

I love you!

Yoko
