RESPECT LIVES, SAY NO TO KNIVES!-TYLP

  • Knife crime happens every 24 minutes in the UK.
  • 65% of people who carry knives have their weapon used against them.
  • 50% of young people think it's normal to carry a weapon for protection.
  • 73% of victims know their attackers.
  • Most attacks take place at the weekend.
  • Most violent offenders and most victims are aged 16-24 years old.
  • Police recorded 22,151 offences involving knives last year in England and Wales, including grievous bodily harm, attempted murder, wounding and robbery.

The Law
The law prohibits possession of knives in public without "good reason or lawful authority", except for folding pocket knives with blades of no more than three inches. You have to be able to demonstrate a good reason for possession if you're found with a knife in a public place, such as for sporting purposes or as part of a profession.
